Reformed cult Australian act THE GO-BETWEENS are to release their eighth studio album early next year.
'Bright Yellow Bright Orange', scheduled for release in February on Circus Records, is the band's first album since 2000's acclaimed comeback album 'The Friends Of Rachel Worth'. Songwriters Grant McLennan and Robert Forster are joined on the ten tracks by bassist Adele Pickvance and drummer Glenn Thompson.

Clash, Elivs, Attractions and The Police go to the Hall

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2003 inductees: British outfits The Clash, Elvis Costello and the Attractions and the Police will join Aussie headbangers AC/DC and the lone American act, 60's blue-eyed soul duo The Righteous Brothers.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first recording. The Clash, Elvis Costello and the Attractions and the Police all made it on their first ballot, as did the Righteous Brothers, who were first-time nominees despite being eligible since the late '80s. AC/DC was voted in on its third try.

Those in the better-luck-next-year category include Black Sabbath, the Sex Pistols, the Patti Smith Group, MC5, Kraftwerk.

The Rock Hall's 18th annual induction black-tie induction ceremony, followed by the now-standard rollicking jam session, will take place March 10 in New York.(Highlights will air later on VH1.)

Run DMC Call it quits

Following the murder death of DJ Jam Master Jay, Run DMC have called it quits after a 19-year run rocking the microphone.

The Reverend Run made the announcement from the trio's home base in New York, just days after the shooting death of their fellow band member:

"Nobody wants to see Run and DMC without Jay. Jay was definitely one third of the group. People might see us on television and be wondering if Jay was a significant part of the group.
Yes, he was. "We split this money three ways," Run continued with DMC nodding his head in agreement in the back. "Some rock bands can replace the drummer, but I don't know any other way but [to perform] with the three original members. We're retired..."

Grandaddy To Release 2 New Albums Next Year

California indie rockers Grandaddy will release their third album, and follow-up to 2000's acclaimed Sophtware Slump in April. The band is currently recording tracks at their own Central Heat and Air studio in Modesto. So far they've finished a handful of songs but have enough music to fill a couple of discs. Despite the breadth of material, there are no epic, meandering selections in the new batch. A street date for the as-yet-unnamed release is tentatively planned for April or May of next year.

More Flaming Lips!

Its gonna be busy holiday for Flaming Lips fans! On your wish list should already appear the following: 1) The Norman, OK bands critically acclaimed 2002 release Yoshimi Battle the Pink Robots, 2) the 3-disc compilation of Lips pre-major label material called "Finally, the Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid," and 3) a two-disc set called "The Day They Shot a Hole in the Jesus Egg" which compiles Flaming Lips recordings from 1989 to 1991, including the complete "In a Priest Driven Ambulance" album and 23 bonus tracks! Whew! And if that's not enough, the Lips are scheduled to release a live mini-album titled "Yoshimi Wins!" which contains eight live performances recorded at various U.S. radio stations, and features four in-studio versions of tracks from "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" and "The Soft Bulletin," and four covers of songs recorded by Beck, Radiohead, Kylie Minogue, and Irving "Singin' In the Rain" Berlin. The Lips' record label, Warner Brothers, hopes to have Yoshimi Wins! on shelves sometime before Christmas, though a mid-winter release is more likely.

Meanwhile, the members of Flaming Lips are nearing completion of shooting their first "film" called "Christmas on Mars," which was written, directed and produced by the Lips themselves. While the flick won't be out ‘til next Christmas, fans can expect an accompanying soundtrack, featuring several newly recorded tracks by the band. Hmmm...The Flaming Lips' meets holiday music. Holi-daze, indeed!
