Listen up, daddy-o. Junior Varsity is here to take you back to the era of teen beach movies and scary monsters and lotsa dancin' and lotsa kissin'. You're not going to be able to resist these 1950s-inspired pop tunes.

These two girls (guitars and vocals) and guy (drums and vocals) formed in the small eastern-Texas town of Nacogdoches and now reside in Houston. They quickly caught the attention of Peek-A-Boo records with their first single and their first gig in front of more than 600 frat boys at a local college. Peek-A-Boo signed them soon after, and the rest is history.

In many ways, Junior Varsity is refreshing in the same way the last Headcoatees album was. The juvenile-sounding female and male vocals, the two guitars (no bass), the light-yet-energetic drumming and the rockin' '50s teen-pop makes Junior Varsity absolutely irresistable.

There is nothing serious about Junior Varsity, and the band is not exactly original. But who cares? All you need to do is get up and do a little twistin' and shakin'. It's too much fun not to. Annette Funnicello and Gidget, eat your hearts out; it's time to give Junior Varsity a chance in the limelight.
